Zakynthos (Zante or Flower of the Levant) is the third largest island of the Ionian Islands with a population of 40,000 residents. The town of Zakynthos is the capital of the island.
The island offers beautiful beaches while the beaches at the Laganas Bay in the south are famous for nesting turtles Caretta Caretta. Zakynthos is a coastal town with Venetian, Galician and English influences and buildings. Apart from the coastal road, tourist shops and restaurants you can see the museum and post-Byzantine church of Agios Dionysios.
Out of town you can visit the traditional village of Kalamaki with olive groves, restaurants and beach with many activities. Also the beaches of Tsilivi, Vassilikos Xigia, Gerakas, Laganas, Plaka.

The average temperature in Zante range from 11 degrees Celsius (52F) in January to 26 degrees (80F) during July and August. Tourism in Lefkada runs primarily from May through October with peak months in July and August.
